When combined with the pressures and responsibilities outside of work, it is no wonder that employees may experience high levels of stress in their daily routine. This seminar will teach participants how to effectively manage stress for optimal health, well-being, and workplace productivity.

Thrive is a series of events focused on building positive mental health for Queen's staff, faculty, and students. Thrive is also a mindset. November
*“Learning to Recharge” In-Person Workshop (especially for FAS)
Nov 23, 2023 from 11 am – 12 pm
It may seem like a good work strategy to do one more thing or push through. But, in fact, our focus and productivity will go down when our energy is depleted. This means we have to work harder and longer to get the same results that we would have had if we took the time to recharge. In this session facilitated by Queen’s Employee Wellness Services staff, we’re going to focus on activities that will help us relax, calm our minds and energize us. Each activity was created specifically for us to do during break times when we need to recharge. Come to both enjoy the experience and learn to recharge yourself.

*“Self-Compassion: Essential Self-Care” Virtual Workshop (especially for FAS)
Jan 23, 2024 from 10 – 11:15 am
The tempo of life has intensified, making it increasingly difficult to navigate the many demands expected of us – at work, at home, of ourselves. When we struggle, our conditioning is to blame ourselves or others, and this can lead to suffering. But failure, imperfection, and challenge are a part of being human. We learn from our mistakes and our struggles. That’s how we grow. Holding ourselves with kindness and compassion during such times, eases suffering and makes space for more of who we really are “to show up.” We become more whole.
Facilitated by Denise Neumann-Fuhr, this session will introduce participants to the meaning and purpose of self-compassion as an essential life skill to use during difficult moments. It will touch upon embodiment and grief as elements of this skillset; and it will introduce accessible and easy to use practices that participants can utilize throughout the day and in moments when self-doubt and self-recrimination surface.
