In 2018-19, Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) introduced Pre-Doctoral Fellowships for Indigenous Students. The first of its kind in Canada, the program is designed to support the intellectual and scholarly development of senior doctoral candidates in ways that position them for success.
Building on the success of the inaugural program, in 2021-22, FAS expanded the program to include Pre-Doctoral Fellowships in Black Studies.
The program supports the BA Honours Major and Joint Honours in Indigenous Studies offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, and the BA General/Minor in Black Studies offered by the Department of Gender Studies. It is intended to reinforce the profile of the Indigenous and Black Studies programs at the graduate level and extend their interdisciplinary reach to departments, programs, and faculties across the university.

To further support these candidates, and as part of our commitment to promoting justice and embracing a variety of scholarly perspectives, backgrounds and lived experiences, the Faculty of Arts and Science has also launched a new Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program for Indigenous Students and in Black Studies in 2022-23.
NEW Post-Doctoral Fellowships
The Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University is excited to launch a new Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program for Indigenous Students and in Black Studies, as part of our commitment to promoting justice and embracing a variety of scholarly perspectives, backgrounds and lived experiences.
The program will offer emerging scholars from a wide range of disciplines access to the financial support, mentorship and career development opportunities needed to build the foundation for a successful professional future.
This inaugural Post-Doctoral Fellowship program has been created to provide enhanced supports for early career Indigenous Students and those in Black Studies building upon the foundation of the Pre-Doctoral Fellowship program.
At this time the program is reserved for graduates of our Pre-Doctoral Fellowship program.
